4th of July

Sydney played 3 soccer games in the morning. We then returned home for food, and fireworks. Moriah loved the smoke bombs. In the evening, we headed to town for a concert and to enjoy the night-time firework display.

Edith Greene

On Friday, April 10 Sydney Hammett represented Pawnee Elementary at the Shawnee Mission Hero Assembly. Sydney was chosen by staff for her inspired enactment of Edith Greene. If you know Sydney's passion for sports, then it is easy to understand why Title IX is so important to her.

Lexus Cup in Tulsa

Sydney and I headed to Tulsa last weekend for the Lexus Cup Tournament.

Her team only allowed 3 goals all weekend.

Sydney finished the tournament with 3 goals and 1 assist.

Sydney's team won all four matches and they were crowned U11 Gold Division Champions.

I enjoyed the father-daughter bonding time we had over the weekend and it was also nice to bring the "hardware" back home to Kansas for the second year in a row.

2014 HIT Tournament Champions

This weekend, Marshall experienced his first tournament championship with his new team. This summer Marshall made the move to KC Legends and is now playing Division I soccer. Marshall scored the game winning goal in Saturday's game via a penalty kick. The championship game was tied at the end of regulation and so the game went to penalty kicks.

Challenger Cup makes 6!

Sydney played in the Challenger Cup last weekend and once again her team came out on top. Her team played up in the U11 division. They had to battle older, bigger, and faster girls. Everyone on the team rose to the challenge and their efforts were rewarded with another medal.

For the record, Sydney's team has been in six tournaments this season. They have taken first place in 4 out of the 6. In the other two they finished in second place. Our home has been filled with numerous medals and many wonderful memories.

Winter is not for resting

This winter Sydney is playing basketball and soccer. Sydney joined a new basketball team and she is having a great time playing point guard. We have been spending a lot of time running back and forth from Okun Fieldhouse to New Century Fieldhouse.

Marshall has already started basketball. Like Sydney, he is on a new team this winter. Marshall will also be playing soccer this winter. His team is playing in an OUTDOOR league throughout the winter. They will play in the cold, on turf fields as we battle through low temps and snow. Soccer outside in December, January and February will be very interesting. Thank goodness for gloves, hats, scarves and etc. In January he will also start playing indoor games at All- American. Two soccer schedules and a basketball schedule are destined to keep Marshall busy and in shape for the spring season.

Marshall is carrying on the family tradition and looks very good rockin' the #44.  Sterling and I both wore that number while playing basketball. We are proud that Marshall chose to honor us by doing the same.

In between all of the sports activities we find time to do all of the other family necessities. Pumpkins were picked from the patch. A delicious turkey was devoured on Thanksgiving. We witnessed the Plaza lighting. Black Friday deals were explored. The Christmas tree has been decorated. Presents have started to be wrapped. I don't know how but we find the time. We always have and we always will.

Goodbye Fall

The fall soccer season has come and gone.

Sydney's team finished as U10 Division I Champions and runner up (2nd place) in their U11 division. Sydney had a great season and scored the majority of her goals with her LEFT foot. She got to walk in the "Parade of Champions" at a recent Comets game. She continues to improve her skills and is being recruited by several other teams. We are so proud of our daughter and the work ethic she shows with her desire to be the BEST!

Marshall had a very successful fall soccer season, as well. Marshall's team has a new coach this year. A new coach meant new positions, and a new team formation. Marshall moved from his customary spot at Left Forward to Center Midfield. Marshall is still learning and getting comfortable with his new position. As the fall season progressed, the more touches he had, which in turn led to numerous assists and several goals. His team finished in 3rd place and they have already set the goal to be champions in the spring.
